2013 Engineering Expo & Engineering Expo Alunmi Event

Hybrid Vehicle Team participated in the 2013 Engineering Expo at the University. This Expo is known for bringing thousands of elementary, middle and high schoolers as well as the general public from all parts of Wisconsin. Students were able to interact with the team members and learn about our research with RCCI as well as some general facts about hybrid vehicles.

After the Expo the team attended the Engineering Expo Alumni Event held in the Mechanical Engineering building. Alumni from different fields of engineering attended this event and the team members were able to talk with the alumni about the current projects the team is taking on.

Basic Car Maintenance with AOE Sorority

This week the Hybrid Team collaborated with the AOE Sorority to learn some basic car maintenance. The ladies got a chance to change a flat tire, check tire pressure and learn about the different fluids that should be checked to keep ones vehicle running smoothly.

Motor Testing Resumes

After making some mechanical adjustments to the motor plates, the mechanical team reassembled the motor plate onto the dynamometer this week. The controls team has now resumed testing out the motor while the mechanical team continues work in the engine bay.

Mover n Shaker Award

Starting the month of March off right with another Mover n Shaker Award. Mitch Johnston received the Mover n Shaker Award from Team Leader, Jake. Mitch has been contributing to both the mechanical and controls teams work. Also this past Friday he worked in the shop late to help out with some mechanical work.

Chicago Auto Show 2013

Some members from the Hybrid Team attended the Chicago Auto Show this past Saturday. Major automotive companies came to this big event to show off some of their vehicles that are on the market, soon to be on the market, and concept vehicles. There was also an opportunity to test drive and participate in simulations. Overall this was a great experience for the team members. Special thanks to Glenn for making this happen.

Taking on New Responsibilities

This past Friday, Brian Lee was officially announced as the new Mechanical Leader. Brian has been working with the team for about two and half years, and has contributed to some of the larger scale mechanical projects in past years. His goals as the new mechanical leader are to keep projects organized with status updates, as well as to give new members the opportunity to learn from old members. Congratulations Brian and best of luck to you as the new Mechanical Leader!

Also this past Friday, the team recognized a new team member for his hard work over winter break. Peter Conis received the Mover n Shaker Award for coming into the shop over winter break to help get the vehicle running fully electric before going to the Wisconsin Corn and Soy Expo.

Wisconsin Corn & Soy Expo

The team headed up to Wisconsin Dells January 30th-February 1st, for the Wisconsin Corn & Soy Expo at the Kalahari. The team was at the Expo to show off their current work in preparation for RCCI implementation into the vehicle. They had a chance to talk with people about their technology and how the biodiesel and wet ethanol were to be injected into the engine simultaneously.

eMoove is a moooving!!

Yesterday the final mechanical and controls adjustments were made on eMoove, the motor was tested out first and then the eMoove was driven out of the shop on it’s own power to do a little drive test around the engineering campus.

Winter Break Recap

Over winter break the vehicle for RCCI was taken over to MATC to receive another fuel door to accommodate dual fueling. While the vehicle was at MATC, EMP fabricated two custom fuel tanks that allows our vehicle to hold two different fuels simultaneously. Once the vehicle returned to the shop, members worked on the vehicle and it is now an almost fully functional electric vehicle.
