Multi-cylinder RCCI progress in UW-Madison Engine Research Center
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Engine Research Center has recently started converting it’s GM 1.9L diesel engine laboratory to operate with Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition. The main points of focus during this conversion are adding pressure sensing glow plugs, installing an intake manifold which has been modified to include port fuel injectors, and building a low-reactivity (gasoline, E85, etc.) fuel system. This is also an exciting time for the Hybrid team because if this setup is successful, it will be very similar to what is used in the vehicle.
